Who? What? Why?

Who?

My name is Matt Peacock and this is the blog for the record label I will be starting- Roofbeam Records. The name Roofbeam Records was inspired by a J.D. Salinger story. One of my favorites. I always thought "Peacock Records" would have been a good name with many creative logo ideas, but someone beat me to it, http://peacock-recordings.com/catalog.htm, minus the creative logo ideas. All that said, I love the name Roofbeam Records. And yes, I know, for all you English majors, that "roofbeam" is not a word. I am well aware that it is normally spelled with 2 words. That is what makes this so fun. Not only did I get to name my label, but I was able to create my own word.

What?

As I said, Roofbeam Records is my new record label. But it is not just a run-of-the-mill record label. Two things make Roofbeam Records different. First, is its unique business model. Without giving away the farm, I'll just say under the Roofbeam model you will be getting more from the artists in an affordable fashion. This unique model is built for the 21st century and the music lovers who live in it. Second thing that makes Roofbeam unique is that it allows the artist creative independence. Thus the tag, "Independent Label For Independent Artists." Many labels demand much of the creative control over an artist's project, often limiting the artist in many ways. Roofbeam Records will believe in the creativity of its artists and allow them the freedom to produce the kind of product they desire. If you are a music fan this should thrill you that artists will not have someone looking over their shoulder dictating what moves the artist makes.

Why?

Why blog? First, I am new to this type of industry and the journey through it is something I want to share. Maybe someone out there can learn something or even make suggestions. Like I said, I'm learning and I'm not too proud to hear any suggestions you might have. Second, the website is not up and running yet. The URL is bought, just so that any of you scallywags who might try to buy it then sell it to me will know, but the website is not up yet. But I am in very serious talks with an artist right now that I am very excited about. When everything is done, I will introduce him to you. And of course, when the website is done you will be informed. I am excited to share this venture with you all.

We are currently on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RoofbeamRecords.

Right now we are working on both a Facebook and MySpace pages. Keep checking the blog and twitter for the most current updates. Until next time.
